Mom Anderson

When I married Bill and four year old Ashley I was most fortunate to get two mothers-by-marriage, each a grandmother to Ashley. I first met the Andersons in Amarillo as we celebrated Ashley's fifth birthday, the first since her first mother, the Anderson's daughter, Paula, had died.

I was warmly welcomed and accepted and introduced as a daughter. I was told I was to call them Mom and Dad A. Through the years, this gracious woman taught me, by her life, how to accept tragedy and hardships and keep on living a productive and loving life. She was a treasured mentor.

We were looking forward to visiting with Mom and Dad Anderson on this trip. Mom A was in rehab and was looking forward to joining Dad in their new unit at an assisted living center. While we were on the way we got the call that Mom had died. It was sad to have missed seeing her by four days.

Wilda Faye (Carey) Anderson, 91, of Amarillo died Saturday, April 2, 2011.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St., Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Wilda Faye (Carey) Anderson passed from this life into a new life within the loving care of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, April 2, 2011, in Kingwood after a lengthy series of illnesses.
For 73 years, she had been the loving and faithful wife of Clarence Leslie Anderson who survives her. She also is survived by her children, C. Eugene Anderson and wife Daniela of Beverly Hills, Calif.; James C. Anderson and wife Janet of San Angelo; Robert H. Anderson of Amarillo; and Larry W. Anderson and wife Nancy of Kingwood; her sister, M. Maxine Milligan of Dallas, Texas; as well as grandchildren, Amy, Clarence, Eugene, Jr., Melissa, J.C., Tiffany, Brandon, Claressinka, Jonathan, and Jennifer; and great grandchildren, Emma, Carol, Winifred, Grace, Gwendolyn, Alex, Michael, Kate, David, and two more on the way.
Predeceasing her are her daughter, Paula Maxine Anderson Carrell; and granddaughter, Ashley Carrell Habsburg; her parents, W.B. and Pauline Carey, and brothers, Bill, and Marion and his wife Lelah.
"Faye", a graduate of White Deer High School, loved to tell the story of how she, a painfully shy and proper, young lady, began to be called "WILD-a" by a professor at the then West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon, so she took her middle name from that time on. She and her husband, C.L., began life together on the family farm in Gray County in 1937, followed by stints in White Deer and Borger before their move to Amarillo in 1943.
Prior to that time, her first two children were born in Pampa. Two additional children were born while in Amarillo and the last in Pampa while the family lived on a farm near Lefors. Faye and family (after too many encounters with rattlesnakes and coyotes, happily) moved into Pampa in 1950 and later returned to Amarillo in 1956. She lived there until 2009 when she and her husband moved to an assisted living facility in Kingwood.
Once the youngest child began school in Amarillo, she worked for J.C. Penney Co. for almost 20 years. Faye and Clarence had a wonderful retirement being able to travel to the Holy Lands, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Hawaii. The foundation of her life was at her church. She and her husband were members of San Jacinto Baptist Church (now, The Church at Quail Creek) for 60 years during which time she taught younger children's Sunday School classes. Moving to Kingwood, they found a new and wonderfully welcoming church family in Woodridge Baptist Church.
The other members of the family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Faye's son, Larry and his wife, Nancy, for the extraordinary care they gave daily to their parents while in Kingwood. No parent could ask more of a child.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family asks that memorials be made to The Church at Quail Creek, 801 Tascosa Road, Amarillo, TX 79124-1515; American Cancer Society, 3915 S. Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109; or a charity of choice.
